The proposed plan to install advanced or "smart meters" in areas served by TNMP is dependent on receiving federal stimulus funds.

TNMP applied for federal stimulus funds to speed the installation of advanced meters. This request also included grid elements that would increase system reliability and help manage power outages.

A pilot program to install 10,000 advanced meters has already started.
