Join Forces to Help
Flood-Damaged Alamogordo
(ALAMOGORDO, N.M.) – PNM and Texas-New Mexico Power are stepping in
through financial donations and a community workday sponsorship to help
Alamogordo recover from last week's flood.
PNM today announced it will donate $10,000 to American Red Cross relief
efforts in Alamogordo and will match PNM and TNMP customer contributions
up to another $10,000, for a total potential contribution of $30,000.
To receive the dollar-for-dollar match, customers can make donations at
any PNM or TNMP office statewide by writing a check to the American Red
Cross with the subject line "ALAMO FLOOD."
Additionally, area residents are invited join PNM and TNMP volunteers to
clean up the city this weekend. A state of emergency has been declared in
Alamogordo, where bridges have been washed out and debris still clutters
the street.
In coordination with the City of Alamogordo, PNM and TNMP are sponsoring a
community workday on Saturday, July 1, at 8 a.m. to clear debris from
curbs throughout the city. Volunteers should meet in Alamogordo's old IGA
parking lot, entering the lot at Oregon and Tenth streets.
"We wanted to take the opportunity to help the people in our own
backyard," said Diane Harrison Ogawa, director of community relations for
PNM Resources, which owns PNM and TNMP. "These are our customers,
employees and family members. The damage in this community is enormous;
through the volunteer clean up, we can begin to restore a sense of
normalcy."
PNM provides natural gas service and TNMP provides electricity in
Alamogordo. In 2007, the operations will be combined and operate under the
PNM name. |
