TNMP RESTORATION CONTINUES FOLLOWING HURRICANE RITA

FORT WORTH, Texas — Sept. 26, 2005 — Texas-New Mexico Power Co. has restored power to more than 90 percent of the estimated 20,000 customers who lost power immediately following Hurricane Rita and expects to have most restoration completed by the end of Wednesday.

TNMP provides electrical transmission and distribution services to about 105,000 customers in the Gulf Coast region. TNMP has restored power to many of the customers that reported outages Saturday, but as residents return home, new outages are being reported.

About 1,500 customers remained without power Monday afternoon. Those customers primarily are in Texas City, La Marque and Dickinson -- the mainland communities that were hit hardest by Hurricane Rita.

About 80 additional TNMP and contract personnel from throughout Texas arrived in the Gulf Coast area Sunday to assist with restoration efforts, and more TNMP crews are arriving today. Several tree-trimming crews also have arrived and are working to remove limbs and downed trees that are affecting service.

The company urges customers to continue to proceed cautiously and safely when making decisions to return home and to assume any downed power line is energized.

Regular updates on the restoration progress are posted at www.tnmp.com.
