TNMP PREPARES FOR OUTAGE
RESTORATION
IF HURRICANE RITA STRIKES
FORT WORTH, Texas — Sept. 22, 2005 — As Hurricane
Rita continues to make its way closer to the Gulf Coast, Texas-New Mexico
Power Co. is preparing resources in order to provide the quickest
restoration possible in the event of power outages.
TNMP has about 500 service personnel, including about 100 employees and
contractors from its sister company PNM in New Mexico, preparing to join
in restoration efforts should power outages result from the hurricane.
Employees who may be sent to the area include linemen, tree trimmers,
engineers and environmental specialists. The company also expects to
receive support through mutual assistance programs with other utilities.
To ensure business continuity for customers, the company has transferred
its toll-free number for reporting outages to headquarters for PNM
Resources, TNMP's parent company based in Albuquerque, N.M.
Restoration crews will assemble in La Marque and Angleton following the
hurricane to provide quick response to Gulf Coast communities within the
TNMP service territory. To report electrical outages, call (888) 866-7456
for these communities: Alvin, Angleton, Dickinson, Friendswood, La Marque,
League City, Sweeny, Texas City and West Columbia.
"We are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst," said Doug Hobbs,
TNMP president and CEO. "We will restore power as fast as possible should
this hurricane cause outages. It could take two weeks or more to fully
restore power, and we urge our customers to be prepared for that
possibility."
Key facilities such as hospitals, water treatment plants and public
service facilities will receive first priority, followed by major lines
and circuits that service large numbers of customers.
TNMP reminds its customers that there are many important safety
considerations if affected by the hurricane. For a full list of safety
tips, visit TNMP.com.
Texas-New Mexico Power Co. is a wholly owned subsidiary of PNM Resources,
an energy holding company headquartered in Albuquerque, N.M. TNMP provides
transmission and distribution services in Texas to 209,000 customers and
electricity to 49,000 customers in New Mexico.
